In Minecraft (mining hegemony) fishing is done with a fishing rod. Fish are an infinite resource, and it's a good idea to carry a fishing rod in your backpack from time to time.

Find three sticks. Sticks can be crafted by placing two planks in a crafting table.

Find two lines. Threads can be obtained by killing spiders and crypt spiders, or by breaking cobwebs or tripwires.

Three sticks and two lines are placed in the crafting table. Discharge as follows:
One stick in the middle, one on the top right, and one on the bottom left.
The two lines are placed two spaces below the right row.

Make a fishing rod. You can press Shift to click, or drag into the backpack.

to a body of water. Note that more fish are caught when it rains.

With a fishing rod in hand, right-click to throw it out. Wait for the float to come to the surface, then right-click to rewind the line.
The rod can also be thrown underwater, and the float will float to the surface.
